On National Aerospace Day, our reporter Ning Hong takes a look at how the introduction and development of aerospace technology in China is making a difference to our day to day lives.

Night vision, 3d typing, laser radar and micro scopes, these are some of the technologies we once associated with space missions and the likes, but they're now getting more play-time for civilian purposes.

This is a prototype for a surgical microscope. It is becoming more prevalent in operating theatres. A similar one, imported from outside China, would cost nearly a million yuan. But this prototype, complete with domestic intellectual property rights, will greatly reduce costs for many hospitals.

"The optical technology is a general technology, the ones used in military could also be used for the civil sector. The core of our product is optical technology and we are now applying for production certification. The product could be in the market in the next year," said Meng Junhe, Tianjin Jinhang Institute of Technical Physics.

Among the various products, many focus on current environmental issues. For example this surveillance system can detect air pollutants in real time.

"We now have over a hundred monitoring censors in five chemical industrial zones here in Tianjin. If pollutants exceed the limit, it will trigger an alarm, and we will also know the location," said Hu Jia, civilian industry research center.

As a national strategy, China is hoping to integrate civilian needs with those of the military. So expect many similar projects in the future.
