Twenty-eight Chinese provincial-level administrative divisions have released their GDP growth rates for the first quarter this year. Twenty-four of them have seen their GDP grow faster than the national pace of 6.7 percent.

Chongqing and Tibet have come out on top with 10.7 percent, followed by Guizhou with 10.3 percent; Hainan is fourth. Its GDP expanded by 9.7 percent, more than double the growth rate registered in the same period last year.

Yunnan, Hebei and Jilin have grown by a rate slower than the national average of 6.7 percent. Jilin is at the very bottom, expanding at 6.5 percent. Shanghai grew exactly at 6.7 percent.

Experts say this marks a good start to the year, and shows the government’s support policies have clearly proved effective. But the economy is still rather fragile, and this in no way signals a solid rebound.
