Americans are lining up outside poll stations in five US states to choose the nation's 2016 Democratic and Republican Presidential candidates.

Democratic front runner, Hillary Clinton and Republican outsider Donald Trump are forecast to win in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

Clinton supporters hope a strong showing can help her move past the primaries -- and move one step closer to becoming the nation's first female Commander-in-Chief. Trump needs big victories to get the 1,237 delegates necessary to lock down his lead and secure the Republican nomination. Polls across all five states close on Wednesday.
