Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has wrapped up visit to Brunei, Cambodia and Laos.  The South China Sea issue was on the agenda.

Building consensus was the mission of China's Foreign Minister. Wang Yi was on a three-nation visit to Southeast Asia, and the South China Sea was a key issue.

First stop was Brunei on Thursday. After an in-depth exchange of views, the two sides reached consensus and agreed to push forward the "dual-track" approach -- disputes should be resolved peacefully through negotiation between the parties directly concerned, and China and ASEAN countries should work together to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

"Pending a settlement, they could also discuss and shelve their disputes for joint exploration and development, and constructively manage the differences," Wang said.

Next stop was Cambodia. Wang Yi and his counterpart Prak Sokhon discussed key regional and international issues, including territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

"Cambodia's stance is to appeal to all parties involved in the maritime dispute to find ways to settle this problem peacefully through consultation and negotiation following international law," Sokhon said.

In Laos, Wang Yi met President Bounnhang Vorachit and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, with a focus on boosting bilateral ties.

Wang expressed confidence about the development of the bilateral relations and promised to raise China-ASEAN ties to a new level.

"China will help Laos with its industrialization process, and ensure that the China-Laos railway is constructed ahead of schedule, and we'll encourage more Chinese to visit Laos., I'm deeply convinced that this year will undoubtedly mark a significant year for Sino-Laos relations, and our friendship will be boosted to a brand new level," Wang said.

Lao Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith says his country appreciates China's help, and that it is willing to expand cooperation with China to benefit the people in the region as well.
