China has urged the international community to take a positive and objective stance towards a new law on regulating overseas non-governmental organizations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua chunying was in response to a statement by US Secretary of State John Kerry, which said the legislation creates a "potentially hostile environment" for overseas NGOs. Hua Chunying said the law aims to regulate the activities and protect interests of overseas NGOs on the Chinese mainland. She added that other countries needed to respect China's decision on domestic affairs.

"I want to stress that every country faces different domestic conditions so the management of overseas NGOs is also different. China's legislation can be brought fully into play only by fully conforming to its domestic conditions. We hope that relevant countries can respect China's sovereignty and can have a positive perspective on China's legislation," Hua said.
