Traffic has been disrupted in China's Northwestern Xinjiang automonous region due to rainstorms, flooding and waterlogging.

The local government has begun an emergency response plan, to repair damaged water banks and relocate residents from dangerous areas. The southern half of the region has been coping with intense sand storms. Many flights in the cities of Urumchi and Aksu have been cancelled or delayed, leaving hundreds stranded.

The sandstorms have also been affecting neighboring Qinghai Province, where the sky has turned a shade of yellow. Meanwhile, a cold front in Gansu Province forced a temperature drop of up to 17 degrees Celcius in places. It was actually freezing in the city of Jiuquan and the local weather authority issued a yellow warning for frost.
