Data released Tuesday show China's logistics sector expanded in April.

The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing's Logistics Prosperity Index for April came in at 54.2 percent. That's up 1.3 percentage points from March. Logistics activity in such sectors as chemistry, coal, mining industries and home appliances all were active in the month.

"Viewing from the industries of the logistics sector, its orders and prices both picked up. Generally speaking, it's a reflection of a stabilizing macro economy in the logistics sector. On the other side, the stabilizing and growing logistics sector will also push the macro economy to develop positively," said Cai Jin, vice chairman of China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing.

China's social logistics volume totalled 50.7 trillion yuan in the first quarter. That's an increase of 6 percent from the same period last year. Social logistics expenditures came in at 2.4 trillion yuan, up 2.3 percent year on year. Cai Jin says the logistics sector operated more efficiently during the period.

He said, "The logistics industry was developing well in the first quarter. It reflects that China's overall economy is also on a stable and growing trend."

Boosted by logistic activities, employment in the sector also increased while equipment was used at a higher efficiency rate.
