Germany's Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen is in the Austrian capital, Vienna for an official two-day visit. She has held talks with her Austrian counterpart Hans Peter Doskozil and a treaty was signed to significantly increase cooperation between their armed forces.

They also discussed the ongoing migrant crisis, and both stressed the need to work with other European countries to help strengthen EU borders.

Hans said, "I think it is important that we respect each other in the future, respect our different courses of action. And I think the most important thing is that we don't lose the basis for discussion between the different states."

Ursula said, "It is very important that we find solutions together with Italy, to protect the EU borders in Italy and to strengthen orderly procedures there. We Europeans must help them as best we can so they can take on this responsibility. Because these are our common EU borders. And Europe is only as strong as every single country that does its bit."
