YANGON, May 4 (Xinhua) -- A kitchen fire has destroyed 49 long houses at an internally displaced persons camp (IDP)-2 in Stttway, Myanmar's western Rakhine state, official media reported Wednesday.

Tuesday's nearly one-hour morning fire, which razed the Baw Du Ba IDP camp, left nearly 2,000 refugees of 435 households homeless, who are being sheltered at Ohndawgyi relief camp.

Six long houses were manually destroyed by firefighters in order to control the blaze and stop the spread of the fire to other structures, the report said.

According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the fire caused loss of 137.5 million kyats (137,500 U.S. dollars).
