Pakistan says a US decision not to subsidize the purchase of F-16s won't stop it from buying the fighter jets.

"They have said that this money cannot be used for F16s. They have also said that it can be used for other purchases. So the $240 million that the air force has, it can use that for other purchases. So in that sense the funding has not been wasted, it is available," said Pakistan's Foreign Policy Chief Sartaj Aziz.

The US announced that it won't subsidize Pakistan's Purchase of F-16 Fighter Jets earlier this week, citing congressional opposition. US had told Pakistan that they should put forward national funds for that purpose.

This means that Pakistan will have to pay a $700 million bill for the weapons deal all by itself. Originally, Islamabad was supposed to pay around $270 million.
