AFC Champions League: Shanghai side reach knock-out stage despite loss

China's Shanghai SIPG traveled to South Korea to take on the Suwon Bluewings for thier final Group G match of the AFC Champions League. SIPG were already assured of advnacing to the knockout stage so this was a chance to give younger players some game time. Suwon, however needed a win while hoping for Melbourne Victory to lose in order to make it into the round of 16.

Suwon get off on the right note in the encounter, as they are given a penalty just six minutes into the contest. Yang Boyu with the fould on Kim Gun Hee in the box. 

Kim sends goalkeeper Sun Le the wrong way to make it 1-0 Bluewings which is how it would remain at half-time. 

Suwon then makes it two-nil in the 52nd minute - Min Sang Gi scoring with the header from the corner. It's a dangerous cross and the SIPG goal was left wide open

The home side then add a third three minutes later. Kim gets the final touch for his second goal of the evening. A nice flick with the outside of the boot and 3-0 is the final score.

Despite the win, Melbourne Victory's 2-1 triumph over Gamba Osaka meant Suwon crashed out of the AFC Champions League. Melbourne and Suwon both finished on nine points, but the Australian club took second place due to a better head-to-head record. SIPG topped the group with 12 points.
