President Barack Obama has visited Flint, Michigan, bringing with him promise of change, after lead from old pipes tainted drinking water in the city.

The president sipped filtered water on Wednesday to prove it was drinkable. He also urged parents to ensure their children get tested for lead poisoning. He said residents should run their taps frequently to flush out remaining pollutants. Obama said the water contamination was a man-made mistake.

In 2014, Michigan State Governor Rick Snyder, a Republican, approved the relocation of Flint’s water source from the Detroit River to the Flint River, in a bid to save money.

Experts believe the water is more corrosive, which led to large amounts of lead from the pipelines leaching into the city’s water.
