The Ecuadorian Ambassador to China, Jose Maria Borja, has briefed the media on Thursday in Beijing. He introduced the relief and rescue work being undertaken after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit coastal Ecuador on April 16.

He said the Chinese government and private sector have provided much-needed humanitarian aid and donations to boost Ecuador's post-earthquake relief efforts. The Chinese government handed over 2 million US dollars and 10 truck-loads of aid to Ecuador. He said the support was timely and essential.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Chinese government and the Chinese people. We appreciate the warm regard and support from President Xi Jinping, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Chinese companies have provided much-needed humanitarian aid and donations to our post-earthquake relief efforts in terms of infrastructure and medical care," said Jose Maria Borja.
