The spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, Hong Lei, has urged Japan to play a more constructive role for regional peace and stability. Hong made the comment after Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe accused China of militarizing the South China Sea during his trip to Europe and Southeast Asia.

"Japan lies outside the South China Sea region. But Japan has taken great efforts to make its opinion heard on the South China Sea issue. Those efforts have only revealed evidence of Japan's illegal occupation of China's islands and reefs in the South China Sea during WWII and exposed Japan's ill-intentions on the South China Sea issue. Japan should stop meddling in the South China Sea issue," Hong said.
