Ning, Ye, Sun expect to lead PRC swimming team

And once the cauldron is lit in Rio, the Chinese swimming team will be looking for a heavy medal haul. But the health of one of the team-members, Sun Yang remains in doubt. The swimmer is back in China, after concluding training in Australia. A foot injury meant he was unable to race at the the Olympic trials in April, but medical staff are optimistic he will be ready for Rio. Mike Fox tells us more.

After intense physio therapy, Sun Yang seems to be on the road to recovery.

"Medical staff paid very close attention to Sun's injury and agreed that he should not participate at the Olympic trials. During his time in Australia, Sun began to train after three weeks. He is confident that he will be able to swim in Rio," said Wang Lusheng,
China Swimming Center director.

The country's newest swimming sensation -- Ning Zetao, also trained "Down Under". The current world champion in the 100-metres, swam his favourite event in 47-point-96 seconds at the national swimming trials, last month becoming the first Asian to break the 48-second barrier in the distance. He will be one of several counted on to do well for China.

"This is a good time against top-level talent. No matter if the results in Rio are good or not. I will try my best to perform to the best of my ablity.I believe I can be successful," said Ning Zetao.

"We should be modest, and not be influenced by our past results. My goal is to swim well and be happy," said Ye Shiwen.

Other events that China has a chance for medals in the pool will come in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay, women's 4x100 medley relay, women's 100 freestyle, woman 100 breast stroke.
