The DPRK's party congress has drawn massive attention from its neighbours. After it opened on Friday, China said it hopes the North will make efforts in safeguarding peace and stability in northeast Asia.

"The DPRK is now experiencing an important phase of national development. We wish for the country to make achievements in developing the nation, and improving the welfare of its people. We also hope that the DPRK will listen to the voice of the international community and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the northeastern Asian region," said Hong Lei, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
