French President Francois Hollande led the commemorations in Paris on Sunday to mark the 71st anniversary of the end of World War Two.

Hollande visited the Arc de Triomphe war memorial, where he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, observed a minute's silence and met with veterans and survivors. A group of adolescents were invited to participate as Hollande urged younger generations to remember historical events.

Victory in Europe Day is celebrated on May 8 to commemorate Nazi Germany's surrender in 1945 which marked the end of World War Two.
