The official announcement of perhaps the worst kept secret in the sport, as Stephen Curry has been named the NBA's regular season MVP for the second straight year. And the point guard was so dominant during Golden State's record setting 73-9 campaign that he became the first player to ever win the award in unanimous fashion.

Curry received all 131 first place votes, and a total of one thousand three hundred and ten points, more than double the tallies of runner-up Kawhi Leonard, and third place finisher LeBron James.

The unanimous selection is a feat that even all-time greats like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Bill Russell never accomplished. And it comes after a campaign in which Curry helped the Warriors break the mark for most wins in a single season.

Fittingly, the announcement would be made less than 24 hours after he returned from a knee injury, to score 40 points and lead the defending champions to an overtime victory against the Portland Trailblazers, in Game Four of the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

Curry led the NBA in scoring this winter at 30.1 points per game, while also setting a new league record with 402 three-pointers. He paced the Association in free throw percentage and steals per game as well.

The 28-year-old is the 11th player to win back to back MVP awards, and the 13th honoree to pick up the prize on more than one occasion.
