The Rio Games are dealing with massive problems, as the Brazilian government deals with the impeachment of its president. Well, the following Summer Games in Tokyo, are now also under scrutiny following a report, that its bid team paid to become the host of the Olympiad. Officials from the Japanese capital's Olympic team are denying the report -- and say they won the bid cleanly.

Britain's The Guardian newspaper reports the Tokyo bid team "or those acting on their behalf" paid about 1.5 million U-S dollars to a Singapore bank account.

It claims account was linked to Papa Diack, the son of disgraced former IAAF President Lamine Diack. French prosecutors confirmed in March they widened their investigation into corruption at track and field's governing body, to include Olympic bidding for the 2016 and 2020 Games.

Tokyo won the right to stage the 2020 Games at the IOC's Session in Buenos Aires in 2013, beating rival bids from Istanbul and Madrid. But officials from the 2020 team say they won the bid honestly.

"I am not aware of this. We understand the campaign for the 2020 Tokyo Games was conducted in a clean manner. If we receive a request from French judicial authorities, our country will respond appropriately based on what they will ask," said Yoshihide Suga, Japanese chief cabinet secretary.
