April data is out for infectious diseases.  Official figures from the National Health and Family Planning Commission show more than 650,000 cases were reported on the Chinese Mainland. There were 1,300 fatalities, nearly 80 percent of them from AIDS.

China classifies infectious diseases into three categories, according to transmission speed and degree of risk. Two cases of cholera, a Class A infectious disease, were reported with no deaths.

In the more than 300,000 Class B cases, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis and syphilis were the top three. For Class C diseases, foot and mouth disease, infectious diarrhea, and influenza accounted for 95 percent of nearly 350,000 cases.
