Spanish La Liga title race came down to the last match of the season. At one time it seemed like Barcelona was going to run away with what would be the club's 24th top flight crown, but a late season slump has resulted in a nervy finish.

Nonetheless, the Catalan club controlled their destiny as a victory at lowly Granada would see them defend their title, while anything else would open the way to Real Madrid who were but one win away from pipping the trophy.

And Barca go ahead in the 22nd minute when Luis Suarez taps in a cross from Jordi Alba to give the Catalans a 1-0 lead.

16 minutes latter, Javier Mascherano's long ball over the top is controlled by Dani Alves, who crosses for Suarez to head home and Barca lead 2-0.

And Suarez completes his hat-trick in the 86th minute. That's 40 goals for the Uruguayan striker in this La Liga campaign and Barcleona win 3-0 to successfully defend their title.

Barcelona finished with 91 points and have now won six of the last eight Spanish league titles. Real Madrid defeated Deportivo 2-0 with two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, but that leaves them one point behind the Catalans.

Atletico Madrid are third with 88 points while Villareal are 14 back of them with one match remaining. Down at the bottom Levante will be relegated while Rayo Vallecan and Sporting Gijon still have a chance to escape the relegation zone.
