China has responded to a Pentagon comment which saying two Chinese fighter jets carried out an "unsafe" intercept of a U.S. military reconnaissance aircraft over the South China Sea. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei declared Chinese jets kept a safe distance from the US surveillance plane.
