Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to visit Iran on Sunday. According to India's Foreign Ministry, Modi's visit will focus mainly on connectivity and infrastructure, energy partnership, and bilateral trade. The two countries are also set to sign a commercial contract on building and operating a strategic port on Iran's southern coast.

An Indian Foreign Ministry official has said the planned project on the Gulf of Oman is expected to jumpstart India's foothold in Iran and win access to central Asia and Afghanistan. The official adds that Modi's visit also aims at promoting regular consultations on regional security issues and people-to-people exchanges.
