Let's take a look at the profile of Pranab Mukherjee. The Indian President lives in the Presidential Residence in New Delhi, which is one of the most attractive buildings in the Indian capital. Ahead of Mukherjee's state visit to China, CCTV was given a tour of the palace.
Pranab Mukherjee, born on December 11th, 1935, is the 13th and current President of India. He has been in office since July 2012.
In a political career spanning six decades, Mukherjee was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress. He's also occupied several ministerial positions in the Indian government.
Prior to his election as President, Mukherjee was Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012, and the Congress party's top troubleshooter. He now lives in the Presidential Residence in New Delhi, like all his predecessors. The building was completed in 1929, and officially put to use in 1931.
Designed by two British architects, it showcases both Indian and British styles. The dome in the middle is the building's prominent feature and on its top stands India's flag.
If it is raised, New Delhi residents know their president is in the capital. If not, they know the president is out for visits.
