China says it opposes politicising humanitarian issues, and that aid should be delivered with full respect for the recipient countries. The head of the Chinese delegation Qian Keming made the statements while addressing the World Humanitarian Summit.

Qian said the world is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis since World War Two... with more natural disasters, more conflicts, amid an increasingly complicated international and regional backdrop. He appealed for more funding and technological support to developing countries, while respecting their basic rights.

"Developed countries should deliver on all their Official Development Assistance pledges and support developing countries' efforts to meet the 2030 agenda on sustainable development. Short-term humanitarian relief  needs to be fitted into the development program in the long run, to better address deep-seated, fundamental issues that breed conflicts in political, economic, social and cultural areas," said Qian Keming Chinese chief delegate to WHS.

He said since 2004, China has provided a huge amount of humanitarian assistance with no political conditions attached, and helped 102 countries and their people overcome humanitarian crises.

"China's humanitarian aid comes with no price tag, there is no strings attached, and no distinction is made based on social systems or development paths of recipient countries. Instead, our aid respects local needs, and is delivered to those people whose livelihoods are at risk," he said to WHS.

Qian said China highly values international cooperation in humanitarian missions, and actively assumes its responsibilities and obligations. And the country will continue to make every effort to help people in crisis.
