Indian President Pranab Mukherjee pitched business opportunities in India to Chinese investors on the second day of his state visit to China. Mukherjee made the comments while addressing the China-India Business Forum in the southern coastal city of Guangzhou.

Pranab Mukherjee is on his first visit to China as Indian president. Guangzhou, China’s third largest city, is the first stop on his trip.

At the India-China Business Forum, he said more Chinese investment is needed in the sub-continental nation.

As the capital of Guangdong, the most populated and richest province in China, Guangzhou has some 5,000 Indian businessmen. And more are expected to come.

Many people here share the same view that a reformed India with its large, young population could replicate China’s success over the last several decades. But many agree that more information and efficiency is needed to ease investor concerns.

"The Indian market is full of opportunities with such a large population dividend. But we Chinese companies are strangers to India. We know very little about its customs, government and consumers. So more information and mechanisms could help," said Li Tianzhi, managing director of Hitouch Consulting, Guangzhou.

Meanwhile India is promoting its “Make in India” and “Digital India” strategies. President Mukherjee said he expects a more balanced Sino-Indian trade, which would see India’s IT services and pharmaceutical industry introduced to China.
