While addressing at Peking University on Thursday morning, Pranab Mukherjee says India and China need to comprehensively address the boundary issue.

Visiting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee told an audience at Peking University that India and China must strengthen their political understanding and develop a closer partnership. He said the common ground between the two countries has expanded, but challenges still exist. For example, both countries need to work together to compressively address the boundary question.

It’s natural for neighbors to have differing views on certain issues from time to time, but this is a test for our political wisdom. We need to learn from civilizational wisdom and solve the issue in a way that satisfies both sides.

Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, said China shares the same vision. Hua said both countries are committed to resolving territorial disputes through negotiation, and China is willing to work with India to speed up the process.

"China is willing to work in unison with India to expedite the framework negotiation of the boundary question, settle this issue left over from history at an early date and further develop China-India relations," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying.

China believes President Muherjee’s visit will facilitate the resolving of the boundary issue, as well as progress in other aspects.

Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, said China is ready to join hands with India, and use President Muherjee's visit as an opportunity to implement the consensus reached by the leadership, to enhance pragmatic cooperation, and build a closer partnership between the two countries.
