Barack Obama will make history later today by becoming the first incumbent US president to visit Hiroshima, site of the world's first atomic bombing.

Japanese protesters have gathered in front of the city's iconic Hiroshima Peace Memorial, carrying a banner with the slogan, "You're not welcome here, Obama."

HIROSHIMA, May 26, 2016 (Xinhua) -- People take part in a protest against the visit by U.S. President Barack Obama, near the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, May 26, 2016. Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) kicked off a summit in Japan on Thursday, but economic policy divergence among the members and protests in Okinawa against U.S. military are expected to shroud the gathering. Obama is also planned to visit Hiroshima on Friday accompanied by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, marking the first sitting U.S. president to visit the city that was obliterated by U.S. atomic bombing at the end of World War II.
