A touring British theatre company has brought its production of "Robinson Crusoe" to Beijing's Tianqiao Performing Arts Center.

A mix of laughter, songs, drama, and audience participation, the Panto Company's production is a delight for both children and adults.

Based on Daniel Defoe's novel, the musical tells the story of Robinson Crusoe, a young and impulsive wanderer who hopes to seek out wondrous treasures and discover strange new lands on the high seas.

But a fierce ocean storm wrecks his ship and leaves him stranded on an uncharted island, where he meets his hilarious new friend, Man Friday, and the beautiful Princess Moonflower.

"My kid loves this show. I've told the story to him before, now he gets to see it on the stage. He's very excited," said a parent.

This version debuted in 2009, and since then it has been staged more than 500 times in Europe and the United States.

But this time, the director has added Chinese elements and even used Chinese actors.

"I think this helps the Chinese people understand better, and helps with their English as well. The Chinese actors are incredibly funny and talented," said Matt Alliston, director of "Robinson Crusoe".

After Beijing, the production will travel to other major cities in China, including Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongqing, and Kunming.
