The Chinese Embassy in Germany has demanded a fair investigation and trial into the death of a Chinese student and criticized the prosecutor in the case for making “irresponsible” remarks.
Li Yangjie, 25, was found dead last month near her home in the eastern German city of Dessau-Rosslau. A young couple was arrested on suspicion of her murder.
The embassy said the prosecutor’s statement had tarnished the reputation of the victim, which cited testimony of the suspects suggesting the three were sexually involved. The prosecutor’s statement also drew public criticism, including from Li’s professor.
