The "International Symposium on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" organized by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the United Nations agencies in China was held in Nyingchi Prefecture, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) on May 30.

Last September, world leaders attended the UN Summit on Sustainable Development and endorsed a transformative 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that was launched on Jan. 1 this year.

The framework targets 17 sustainable development goals and 169 specific targets to realize three unprecedented achievements for the next 15 years: Eliminating dire poverty, defeating inequality and injustice, and restraining climate change.

China is the biggest developing country in the world and has taken development as a priority. Beijing attaches much significance to the 2030 Agenda.

In March 2016, the fourth plenary session of the 12th National People’s Congress passed the 13th five-year plan, which integrates the 2030 Agenda along with a domestic development plan in the medium and long term outlook.

In the next five years, China will strive to get 55.75 million rural Chinese out of poverty, which would be an essential step for China to carry out the 2030 Agenda at an early stage.

China will host the G20 Hangzhou Summit to enlist “inclusive and coordinated development” as one of the four key topics for discussion for implementing the 2030 Agenda.

Beijing hopes to provide political impetus through collective actions by major economies in the world. As a responsible developing nation, China has pursued its domestic development in an orderly fashion and will continuing on with global development cooperation.

In order to achieve the millennium development goals, China had provided more than 120 developing countries with much needed assistance.

Beijing plans to deepen South-South cooperation to help other developing countries implement the 2030 Agenda. The symposium choosing China’s TAR as the site may carry some special meanings.

2016 marks the 65th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. In the past 65 years, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the peoples in the TAR to transform the Old Tibet into a vigorous socialist Tibet with leapfrog sustainable economic social development, with constantly improved living standards and strengthened eco-environment protections.

In 2015, TAR’s GDP (gross domestic product) reached more than 102.6 billion yuan (US$15.8 billion) and its economic growth rate also ranked in the forefront in China.

Its urban per capita disposable income reached 25,457 yuan and rural per capita disposable income reached 8,244 yuan, imprinting a remarkable mark in the history of Chinese people’s self-improvement.

The symposium will allows the world to see a real, developing and changing Tibet with a better future, and help the world have a more objective understanding of the real Tibet.

Looking forward, Beijing continues to shoulder the responsibility of carrying out the 2030 Agenda through a mutual-beneficial manner with joint development.

China can cooperate with other countries to build a common destiny of humanity and to make unremitting endeavors to realize the dreams of everyone.
