06-03-2016 10:32 BJT

The three-day Shangri-La Dialogue is one of the largest and most important security mechanisms in the Asia-Pacific region.

It is an annual inter-governmental security forum organized by London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, and assisted by the Singaporean Defense Ministry.

The dialogue brings together defense ministers, officials, military chiefs, and experts for the discussion and analysis of defense and security concerns in the immediate region and beyond.

The dialogue was established in 2002 and named after the Shangri-La hotel in Singapore where it has been held since.
