Admiral Sun Jianguo has also held talks with Vietnam's Deputy Minister of National Defense, Nguyen Chi Vinh. Both sides hailed achievements made through bilateral cooperation.

Sun expressed hopes that the two countries can step up high-level exchanges, enhance strategic trust and boost cooperation, including working together under the UN peacekeeping framework. Nguyen Chi Vinh said military ties between Vietnam and China have developed smoothly and this was a factor for both countries to maintain good relations.

The deputy minister also said China is welcome to conduct humanitarian rescue exercises at sea together with Vietnam and to strengthen cooperation between coast guard forces.
