Rescuers in southwestern China are searching for 14 people still missing, a day after their tourist boat capsized on a lake, killing one person.

There were 18 passengers onboard the boat, which was cruising on Bailong lake in Sichuan province. The cause of the accident is yet unknown, but locals said there was strong wind on the lake at the time.

And local meteorological records show it reached almost gale force. Recuers saved four people initially but officials later confirmed that one of the four, a child, died in hospital. Our reporter Meng Qingsheng visited the hospital where the survivors are being treated.

Doctors at this local Sichuan hospital remain on high alert—closely monitoring survivors.

“The main problem for the three patients is possible pneumonia, and lung injury. And if they have also developed a posttraumatic stress disorder,” said Zeng Jia, deputy director of Guangyuan Center Hospital.

While the rescue work has continued at the site, doctors here are making all-out efforts to take care of the survivors, who are now in a stable condition.

Doctors say even though the rescued appear out of danger, the patients will need time to recover from the trauma.

"The reactions of the survivors and their family members are within the normal range. What we need to do is to ensure their emotions not go to extremes. We will seek medical intervention, if necessary,” said Huo Feixiang, psychological consultant of Guangyan Fouth People's Hospital.

Provincial officials reacted quickly.

“I’ve already checked the situation at the site of the accident. And right there, I have made necessary arrangements regarding the accident,” said Yang Hongbo, deputy governor of Sichuan province.

First responders rescued a child, but the child didn’t respond to emergency treatment and died at the hospital. Authorities said gusting winds appear to have capsized the ship. An investigation has been launched. Meng Qingsheng, CCTV, Guangyuan, Sichuan Province.
