Admiral Sun has also met with NATO and EU military committee chairmen on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue. When meeting with NATO's Petr Pavel, Sun said China attaches a great importance to relations with NATO.

He called for a continued momentum for policy dialogue, more people-to-people exchanges, closer multilateral cooperation, and an unconventional security cooperation. Pavel, in turn, expressed appreciation for China's support to Afghanistan, where NATO led a Resolute Support mission.

And when meeting with the EU's Michail Kostarakos, Sun said China looks forward to enhancing anti-terrorism cooperation, and strengthening peacekeeping coordination with the bloc. Kostarakos thanked China for its support in the EU’s operation in the Gulf of Aden, and said that the EU is interested in a trilateral cooperation with China and African nations in an attempt to push forward peace processes.
