China's Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan has visited the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt.

He said that China is ready to play an even greater role in ending the Syrian crisis. Xie said the Syrian crisis has reached a critical stage, and all concerned parties and the international community should work harder towards a political solution. He also urged for measures to ensure that relief aid can reach those affected.

Apart from meeting with the secretary general of Arab League, Xie also convened with senior Egyptian diplomats regarding the Syrian crisis. The Chinese envoy arrived in Cairo on Sunday, and this is his first visit to Egypt since his appointment in March.
