Chinese FM meets Kenyan counterpart

Kenya's Foreign Minister has brought around 20 officials from different ministries to Beijing. They are discussing with Chinese officials, ways China can help Kenya convert its potential in human and natural resources into economic strengths.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Kenyan counterpart, Amina Mohamed, in China's Diaoyutai Sate Guest House for the first meeting of the China-Kenya bilateral steering committee. Wang said China would like to work with Kenya to build on the consensus reached by the two nation's leaders last year. China considers Kenya to be a model country to work with. A country with great potential production capacity. Wang said the two countries should further develop bilateralcooperation in the areas of -- manufacturing, infrastructure, construction and agriculture -- And expressed his confidence that the meetings will be a success.

"Kenya's President values our bi-lateral steering meeting. He asked the foreign minister to bring a number of important officials from different ministries to China. I believe today's meetings will go well. That they can start the committee successfully, and provide new momentum for development in a variety of areas," Wang said.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Kenya when the Memorandum of Understanding between China and Kenya was signed last year. The memorandum established the bilateral steering committee -- a new important platform for bilateral cooperation.

This time, Kenyan foreign minister Amina Mohamed, is visiting China. She has brought around 20 delegates with her.

"I think you’ve been told we come as a big delegation. I think it shows the relationship, that how important it is, and how much we value. It’s a great pleasure to come. It’s something that we have been looking forward to since we sign the MOU," Mohamed said.

Mohamed called China Kenya’s genuine friend and close partner. She  thanked China for supporting Kenya’s peaceful development. She said Kenya looks forward to work with China to implement the agreements reached by the nations' two leaders.
