Western powers have accused Syria's government of dropping barrel bombs on the town of Daraya hours after it received its first food aid in almost four years. The strikes -- using unguided explosive devices -- came as Arab-Kurdish fighters said they had encircled a stronghold of Islamic State fighters in northern Syria, cutting off a major supply route.

A convoy of trucks carrying food arrived in Daraya late Thursday, delivering rice, sugar, oil and wheat flour to civilians. The government forces bombarded the town shortly after, dropping indiscriminate barrel bombs from helicopters as residents shared food. CCTV correspondent has more on how the UN aid has been overshadowed by renewed fighting.

"But after the aid delivery was completed fighting renewed and sounds of clashes could be heard in the Syria capital, as government forces and rebel pounded each other's positions.

And to the north of the country fighting renewed in Aleppo as rebels under the command of Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate Nusra front have pressed ahead in their attack against government forces south of Aleppo. Also in Aleppo at least five were killed and over 20 others wounded when rebels shelled government controlled parts of the city according the state news agency SANA.

And in central Syria, Syrian army units pushed further into Arraqqa Province approaching Tabaka airbase , the sole airbase in the province and the only landmark of the province aside from the provincial capital of Arraqqa city. Moreover , the Kurdish led Syrian democratic forces said it has now put the ISIL stronghold of Manbj under a full siege making the retaking of the city a matter of days according to a local commander taking part in the offensive.
