Outcomes of first China-US meeting on cybercrime

The first China-US. High-Level Joint Dialogue on Cybercrime and Related Issues took place last year on the December the 1st in Washington DC.

The meeting looked at how both sides request information and assistance from each other with respect to cybercrime and other malicious cyber activities. It assessed the timeliness and quality of responses to these requests. It also aimed to boost cooperation between China and the United States on the issue.

Several outcomes were agreed at the meeting. Firstly, both sides reached an agreement on establishing guidelines for requesting assistance on cybercrime and related issues. Secondly, both countries decided to conduct a tabletop exercise on malicious cyber activities to increase mutual understanding.

A hotline mechanism was also established. In addition, the two countries decided to schedule a second China-U.S. High-Level Dialogue on combating cybercrime and related issues for June this year, which is scheduled to take place in Beijing on Tuesday.
