The World Steel Association has issued its report for world steel production in 2015.

Of the top 20 steel producing countries in 2015, China is the largest with its output hitting 803.8 million tons in 2015. The number was larger than that of the top 19 countries combined.

Japan ranks the second, producing 105.2 million tons last year while India takes the third place with 89.4 million tons production. The USA and Russia ranks fourth and fifth respectively.

ArcelorMittal produced 97 million tons of steel in 2015 and is the world's largest steel producer. Chinese steel maker Baosteel Group ranks the fifth with 34.9 million tons. Shagang Group, China's largest private metallurgical enterprise ranks the sixth.

Edwin Basson, director general of World Steel, urges governments to issue appropriate policies to restructure the industry. Edwin says government will have to tackle barriers when shaking off low end producers and avoid competitive pricing of steel products.
