There's much anticipation across Serbia for President Xi's visit, with many business people hoping it can be a catalyst to attract more investment and present more opportunities.

Serbia is the first country to set up strategic relations with China in central and eastern Europe seven years ago.

The mutual trust has brought forth business opportunities. One of them being steel production.

Chinese company Hebei Iron and Steel Group, has signed an agreement to buy a loss-making Serbian steel plant in the city of Smederevo. Local steel makers are looking forward to an revival.

"Chinese president's visit is very important in many ways. For me, I hope the two sides could have more economic cooperation in steel and other processing industries."

The two sides are also considering setting up an industrial park to lure more Chinese investment into the Balkan country.

This is another visit to the region by the Chinese president, after his visit to Czech republic in March. Analysts say the move would be exemplary in expanding China's influence in the region.

"We are a bridge linking China to the Europe and this is an important task. We are looking forward to having more Chinese companies to invest in Serbia and Central and Eastern Europe to reach common development."

Others are hoping to see more details on the one belt one road initiative, as they would play the role in linking China to the West.
