Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Uzbekistan for his state visit. The Central Asian country is the third and final stop of Xi's three-nation tour, which has taken him to Serbia and Poland.

Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoev and Governor of Bukhara Province Muhiddin Esanov at the airport in the ancient city of Bukhara.

In a written speech delivered at the airport, President Xi noted that the people of both countries jointly opened the Silk Road more than 2,000 years ago. He is expected to hold talks with his Uzbek counterpart, Islam Karimov.

And while in the country, President Xi will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit on Thursday and Friday in Tashkent. He will also chair a trilateral meeting with Russia and Mongolia on the sidelines of the summit, and hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries.
