China's foreign ministry has said the country will avoid adding to tensions on the Korean Peninsula, after Pyongyang conducted two ballistic missile launches on Wednesday.

"We have noted the relevant report. Our position on this is very clear. At present the situation on the peninsula remains very complex and severe. We think that the relevant parties should avoid doing anything to further worsen tensions and should jointly maintain regional peace and stability. Our attitude is very clear on relations between China and the DPRK. The maintenance of healthy and stable development in China-DPRK relationship is conducive to resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and safeguarding peace and stability on the peninsula. So we will continue to make persistent efforts in this correct direction," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying.
