Russia has also said that intervention by countries from outside the region has caused tensions around the South China Sea issue.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said at a press conference that Russia believes intervention from outside parties will only worsen an already tense situation. Hua Chunying from China's Foreign Ministry welcomes Russia's position.

Hua said, "Russia's position reflects the real situation in the South China Sea and the root of the issue. China appreciates that."

"Some countries have intervened for their own interests. Their actions have provoked regional conflict and pushed the militarization of the South China Sea."

"China urges the relevant countries to respect efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea and play constructive roles."
