China's president Xi Jinping has met Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan. India is expected to become a permanent member of the mechanism this year.

President Xi said China and India have many common interests and should enhance cooperation in trade, railways, energy, IT and environmental protection.

Modi said India is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China on international and regional issues, and address problems between the two countries appropriately.
