For more on the aftermath of tornado, CCTV’s Shi Wenjing reports from a village in the worst-hit area.

Racing against time.

Jiang Jian and his team have been working around the clock for the past fourteen hours.

Now they have moved to one of the worst hit areas They are trying to remove a collapsed electricity pole blocking the main road in the village.

"The 72 hours is a golden time for us as rescue workers. We have moved from nearby villages where we cleared the road by moving snapped trees. We want to do our best to offer help to the residents. The rescue work is very critical at the moment," Jiang Jian said.

This is one of the villages in the worst hit county. It is named dalou cun. In Chinese it means big building village. But now, you can only find debris.

To some residents, their once cherished homes are not there anymore.

62-year-old Zhang Daoxu lived in this village his whole life.

He never imagined a tornado would come and flatten his home. He survived by hiding under part of the wall.

"I was taking a nap yesterday. I think the gale raged for more than ten minutes. It was so horrifying. The house was falling apart. When I heard the wind becoming less strong, I went out by covering myself with this dish I use for drying seeds usually to cover my head, so I could check on my neighbours. I didn’t think too much while helping others," Zhang said.

Bruises were left, memories are still fresh. But Zhang says it is good to be alive and life will continue.
