Twenty awards were generated from the 28 nominated films. "Wolf Totem", "The Taking of Tiger Mountain by Strategy", "Monster Hunt", "Dearest" and "Monkey King: Hero is Back" were among the ten films up for "Best Film Award". "True Love" won the Best Rural-themed Film Award,  "A Nobel Spirit" won Best Ethnic-themed Film Award, while "River Road" won the Best Children's Film Award. "Go Away Mr. Tumor" won the Young Filmmaker Creation Award.

Tsui Hark went away with the Best Director for "The Taking of Tiger Mountain by Strategy". "Best Actor" went to Andy Lau for portraying a father in "Lost and Love", while Bai Baihe won the "Best Actress Award" for playing the lead in "Go Away Mr. Tumor".

"For all the award ceremonies, as long as I am nominated and I have time, I will be in attendance so I can enjoy the encouragement," said Bai Baihe, "Best Actress" winner.

"Chinese films should retain their own flavor and own style. Our own films should have our own characteristics. The Huabiao awards is very significant. I had hoped to perform here but my voice is harsh because I've been shouting lately, shooting a movie in a tunnel. So I can't perform today. Next time I will definitely sing some songs for the audience," said Andy Lau, "Best Actor" winner.

Being one of three major film awards, with the other two being the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers, Huabiao awards have been established since 1994. To enhance its prestige, the event has shunken its prizes from 56 to 20 for this year.

Also in the ceremony is an award for up-and-coming filmmakers and actors. Dong Zijian was nominated for Best Actor at last year's Cannes film festival for playing a lead in "Mountains May Depart" and he was on hand to pick up the prize.

"The sense of achievement for an actor comes when their films are liked by the audience. I hope when people speak of my name, they say my films are good in quality. That is enough for me," said Dong Zijian, an actor.

33 films are promoted at the event ranging from crime thrillers to animation comedy and action.
