This year is the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Jinling Buddhist Scripture Woodblock Printing Center. The center opened in 1866 was the first woodblock printing shop for Buddhist texts. An exhibition of the technique is being held in Nanjing.

Jinling woodblock printing technique is listed as world intangible cultural heritage. Founder Yang Renshan (1837-1911) printed and distributed more than 1 million chapters of canonical texts.

It uses wood sculpture and carving techniques to reproduce Buddhist texts and pictures.

A double-sided board with 800 characters takes one-month to finish. The center has 125,000 Buddhist text blocks, 18 Buddha pictures.
