In a response to the report exposing Britain’s role in the Iraq war, the White House said that President Barack Obama’s long-standing opposition to the invasion of Iraq is well known. But it also stressed that the two countries share a special connection.
 
“What is true is that President Obama has been dealing with the consequences of that fateful decision for the entirety of his presidency. Future presidents will likely have to do the same,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

“It is important that certainly the United States, I’ll speak for our own country here, learn the lessons of those past mistakes. But what is also true is that the United States and the United Kingdom have a special relationship.”
