The Chinese Foreign Ministry says China strongly opposes the US deployment of its THAAD missile defense system to South Korea, and is urging the two countries to give up the plan.

The ministry says the move is not beneficial to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and will seriously harm the security of countries, including China.

After months of discussion, South Korean and US military authorities have announced their decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, in the US Forces Korea stationed on the Korean Peninsula.
